How to install tile on the rooftop of my house?
I will be installing ceramic or porcelain tile on my rooftop; however, I’m not exactly sure of how I will be doing it. Right now I have the weatherproofing coating which I believe is tar and also another material which is soft and silver colored. I am planing to lay down wire mesh (Should I nail them down to the roof?) and throw a thin layer of cement to build a slope for the water to run out; eventually throwing thin-set on top of it and finally laying the tiles. Please let me know if this is ok, If not please let me know what the right way is
PS. I will not build a whole structure of wood on the rooftop (like a floating floor) in order to install the tile

I am not sure what your base is on your roof. If you are going to tile your roof like the flooring in a house then you may be wasting your time and money. Now if you could shingle them to shed water you need to drill holes in the upper corners to screw them to the base of your roof deck. and you will need to seal the bottom edge so water won’t roll back up and under the tiles. Don’t screw them in tight because you need to let the move some for the heating and cooling from the sun and night. maybe you can use a rubber washer on each screw. If you have some tile with a fake grout edge around it, then you might get the same effect as a floor setting. lay some out on a flat surface first to see what your effect will look like. The big difference is between a floor setting and a roof is that the tiles on the floor do not move. The floor if solid and the tiles and not in such an extreme environment. your roof is very hostile territory and you have to contend with the extreme heat and cold and rain and ice along with maybe some hail and wind. and then you have to consider how much will all this weigh, can your roof deck support such a heavy load. and will the state code allow you to do this. You could face a fine and have to remove all of it and do it the way others have in the past. I don’t think a dog house or shed would hurt but your home needs to be safe for anyone coming into your house even the police or fire department. There is a cement roof tile on the market the looks like slate maybe to can go with something like that with the tiles glued over the top. You really don’t want the tiles to move around so much and chip away and land on someone’s head when they fall off.
