How do I outfit my d-slr to take infrared photos?
I have a Sony a-100 and I’m just kinda getting interested in infrared photography. I’m thinking of picking up a inexpensive Minolta 5d so I can use the same lenses.
I’ve read that you have to remove the mirror plate from the CCD and use an infrared filter on a d-slr to get that effect. How do I go about doing that.
Also if I take the mirror out is that irreversible? I don’t mind carring around 2 cameras or is there another camera out that it is easier to outfit?

As you can see, only one link includes Sony, but Minolta is not mentioned (DSLR-A100, DSLR-A200, DSLR-A350, DSLR-A700).
I had one of my old Nikon D100’s converted and the auto-focus adjusted to optimize using the 24-85mm f/2.8 (as you know the IR light focuses at a different point than the RGB light rays). I now have an old D200 and will do the same with it and sell the old D100. Technology continues to march on.
You will not be touching the mirror at all, but if you want to reverse the process?
