Use of Medical Infrared Cameras in Medical Science
Infrared camera or thermo graphic camera is a tool that applies infrared radiation to construct an image. Generally, these types of cameras were developed for military purpose. Various applications of infrared camera in medical science

Infrared cameras are used to detect breast cancer. It identifies the vascular thermal patterns in human breasts. Thermal patterns are generally signs of the former stage of the expansion of breast cancer. The process of thermography, vascular conditions known as angiogenesis can be easily noticed.

In the process of infrared thermography, a medical infrared camera measures the temperature differences taking place in different human body parts. Medical infrared cameras form images pointing to the areas of body where irregular growth of cell is suspected. These cameras are capable of doing this because unusual tissues give off high temperature than that of the normal tissues.

The first thing that surgeons do when operating on a brain tumor is to obtain a magnified view of the target, so that they can see the total area affected by the tumor. However, the problem with this process is that the brain tumor tissues look similar to normal and healthy tissues. Infrared cameras help in viewing the exact tissues affected by tumor by showing healthy and affected brain tissues in different colors.
Infrared cameras are assisting doctors in performing detailed scans of the patient’s body parts in high details that were previously not thought of as possible. With the continuous advances in technology, its effectiveness is expected to increase considerably in the coming years.
