Why is CCTV footage of such bad quality?
It always look quite blurry and in black and white. With all the current technology, can’t they get sharper images?
CCTV can now produce images as clear as you would see on a DVD. This would require a high quality camera and recorder. IP cameras that work on the Internet can even produce clear images, see the link at the bottom for a demo.
The reasons you see b/w or fuzzy/blurred images are:
1) Old equipment such as cameras and the old VCR that cannot recreate or record clear images
2) The lens on the camera is not focused correctly
3) The video was recorded by an old VCR
4) Newer digital recorders that have been set to record low quality images to increase recording time
5) Newer digital recorders that are cheap and do not do a good job of recording in the first place
6) Poorly maintained cctv systems
